Demonstration site

Treatment process combination

The Packington demonstration site seeks to evaluate two nature based technologies at large pilot scale to achieve very low phosphorous discharge limits of 0.1 mg phosphorous per liter. The processes investigated are

  • reactive media reed bed
  • immobilised algae bioreactor

which receive biologically treated municipal wastewater.

Aims and ambitions

  • Develop and implement novel technologies for tertiary phosphorus removal from wastewater to low levels
  • Assess added value of technologies with respect to resource recovery and hazardous chemicals removal
